Rules

Craps is a dice game. One player (the shooter) rolls two dice. The first roll is the come-out. A 7 or 11 wins for pass line bettors; 2, 3, or 12 (craps) loses. Any other number (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10) becomes the point. The shooter keeps rolling until they hit the point (pass wins) or a 7 (pass loses). Other players bet on the outcome. The table has many bet types; stick to pass, don't pass, come, and don't come with odds.

How to Play

Place a pass line bet before the come-out roll. If a point is established, you can add an odds bet — place it behind your pass line bet. Odds pay true odds (no house edge). The shooter rolls until they seven out (roll a 7) or make the point. You can also bet "come" (like pass, but for the next roll) and "don't pass" (you're betting against the shooter). The stickperson and dealers will help with placement.

Basic Strategy

Bet the pass line. Take the maximum odds — 3-4-5x is common and reduces your overall house edge to under 0.5%. Avoid proposition bets in the centre of the table: Any 7, Big 6, Big 8, hardways. They have house edges of 9–16%. The pass line and come bets with odds are the only bets worth making for serious players.

House Edge Explained

The pass line has a 1.41% house edge. The don't pass has 1.36%. Odds bets have zero house edge — the casino pays true odds. By taking maximum odds, you dilute the edge on your total action. A $10 pass line bet with $50 odds (5x) has a combined edge under 0.4%. That's among the best on the floor.

Tips for Beginners

Craps looks chaotic but you only need to know a few bets. Start with pass line only. Add odds once you're comfortable. Don't feel pressured to make centre bets. Tip the crew when you win. Watch a few rolls before betting. The table can be loud and social — that's part of the fun.
